

STEPHEN ENGELMAN is a 1976 honors graduate of IIT-Chicago-Kent College of Law who has both lectured and published. Steve has deep experience in multiple areas, including banking, estate planning, commercial and corporate litigation, and residential and commercial real estate. A respected voice in community affairs, Stephen Engelman served for eight years as Evanston Township Assessor. Re-elected in 1996 to his third term representing the 7th Ward in the Evanston City Council, Steve has chaired the Economic Development Committee and currently chairs the committee that oversees the Northwestern University/Evanston Research Park.
MARK SMITH also earned his law degree in 1976 from IIT-Kent. An American Trial Lawyers Association member with broad experience in civil litigation, Mark Smith ranks among the elite circle of attorneys who have taken a case to a jury and received a verdict of more than one million dollars. Mark has served as an arbitrator by appointment of the Cook County Circuit Court, and as a member of the ISBA Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Mark has devoted much service to community, school, and youth programs, and currently devotes time and advice to The Lilac Tree, a non-profit organization assisting women in need of domestic relations counseling.
JEFF SMITH, a former partner of the firm, occasionally teams with Engelman & Smith on a project by project basis. A Northwestern University graduate, Jeff earned his J.D. at Harvard in 1982. A former Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, Jeff Smith is a published scholar who has also taught law at Loyola University, and has won significant victories in Illinois appellate and federal courts. Jeff has served on the boards of numerous statewide and local civic organizations and has been active in Evanston-area youth sports and scouting programs, and in school issues and organizations.
